The human body is composed of 55% to 70% water, so it is a vital fluid for our body, and its proper functioning, combined with physical activity and a healthy diet, are of utmost importance to our health.

But... How does hydration affect our health?
It's medically proven that we can go up to three weeks without food, although this is obviously neither good nor ideal. However, the longest we can go without water is three to five days. When the body doesn't receive enough fluids and is not hydrated enough, it begins to lose energy, causing fatigue and weakness.
These symptoms can progress, with dehydration leading to headaches, low blood pressure, cramps, and seizures—all due to a lack of electrolytes and minerals. Not drinking enough water also contributes to conditions such as diabetes, cholesterol, constipation, and poor digestion, and ultimately damages joints, skin, and hair.
The organs most affected by a lack of water in the body are the kidneys, brain, and liver. Dehydration results from losing more fluid than we ingest. This can result in chronic diarrhea, severe vomiting, sweating, urination, and not drinking the recommended daily amount of water to replace lost water.
Dehydration, like any other illness, must be prevented, and if it occurs, treated. Prolonged or untreated dehydration causes body tissues to dry out and cells to stop functioning. It can also lead to blood shock or low blood volume, which significantly decreases blood pressure and oxygen in the body, which can even lead to death.
To prevent dehydration, remember that it's recommended to drink 2 to 2.5 liters of water a day to maintain optimal hydration, consume water-rich foods like fruits and vegetables, and most importantly, if you experience any discomfort or symptoms of dehydration, consult your doctor.
